Frequently Asked Questions
  • Q1. How do I prove residency?

    The residency determination must be documented by the submission of written or electronic verification that includes two or more of the documents identified in this paragraph. No single piece of evidence shall be conclusive.

    1. The documents must include at least one of the following:

    a. A Florida voter’s registration card.

    b. A Florida driver’s license.

    c. A State of Florida identification card.

    d. A Florida vehicle registration.

    e. Proof of a permanent home in Florida which is occupied as a primary residence by the individual or by the individual’s parent if the individual is a dependent child.

    f. Proof of a homestead exemption in Florida.

    g. Transcripts from a Florida high school for multiple years if the Florida high school diploma or GED was earned within the last 12 months.

    h. Proof of permanent full-time employment in Florida for at least 30 hours per week for a 12-month period.


    2. The documents may include one or more of the following:

    a. A declaration of domicile in Florida.

    b. A Florida professional or occupational license.

    c. Florida incorporation.

    d. A document evidencing family ties in Florida.

    e. Proof of membership in a Florida-based charitable or professional organization.

    f. Any other documentation that supports the student’s request for resident status, including, but not limited to, utility bills and proof of 12 consecutive months of payments; a lease agreement and proof of 12 consecutive months of payments; or an official state, federal, or court document evidencing legal ties to Florida.

  • Q2. Where is the Union County Adult School?

    All adult school activities are conducted at our building located at 208 SE 6th Street in Lake Butler, Florida. Google Maps

  • Q3. Can I take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) without enrolling in adult classes?

    Yes.  If you need to take the TABE test to get a job or gain admittance to an academic or vocational program, we will administer the test to you for a cost of $20.00.

  • Q4. Can my driver’s license be suspended if I do not attend classes after enrolling at the Union County Adult School?

    Students under the age of 18 who have excessive absences or drop out of adult classes prior to earning their GED diploma will be referred to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to have their driver’s license suspended.

  • Q5. Can I reinstate my driver’s license by enrolling in classes at the Union County Adult School?

    Students under the age of 18 who have received notice for suspension of driving privileges due to non-attendance can get their driver’s license reinstated once they have met attendance requirements.  Please see Eugene Dukes to reinstate your driver’s license.

  • Q6. How much does it cost to take the Florida High School Diploma Tests?

  • Q7. If I pass the Florida High School Diploma Tests, what type of diploma will I receive?

    You will be awarded a State of Florida High School Diploma.


  • Q8. Are special accommodations allowed on the Florida High School Diploma Tests for individuals with disabilities?

    Special test accommodations can be arranged for individuals with disabilities as long as they have appropriate documentation verifying the disability.  Call Eugene Dukes for further information.

  • Q9. What are the requirements for taking the Florida High School Diploma Tests?

    Please see the services page for the GED Testing requirements.

  • Q10. Can I remain enrolled in high school and sign up for adult classes to prepare for or take the Florida High School Diploma Tests?

    No.  You cannot enroll in adult classes or register to take the GED Tests if you are currently enrolled in high school.

  • Q11. May I take the Florida High School Diploma Tests if I am under 18 years old?

    Yes, but there are restrictions.  You must be at least 16 years old and meet the requirements listed on the Services pages.

  • Q12. What must I score to pass the Florida High School Diploma Tests?

    To pass the GED Tests, you must achieve a total score of at least 580 with no score below 145 on each of the sections

  • Q13. What are the Florida High School Diploma Tests?

    The General Educational Development (Florida High School Diploma Tests) Tests consist of four tests: RLA, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.  The Florida High School Diploma Tests Tests gmeasure the higher order thinking skills necessary for an individual to successfully complete post secondary education and/or maintain employment.

  • Q14. When will I receive my Florida High School Diploma Tests scores?

    You should receive an email within 24 hours after testing. The email will contain your test scores and a link to get a free eDiploma, a free eTranscript, and directions needed to get a free paper diploma mailed to you.

  • Q15. If I do not pass one or two of the Florida High School Diploma Tests, do I have to retake all of the tests?

    No.  You can retake only the test or tests you failed, or you can retake any combination of the four tests.

  • Q16. Can I purchase a Florida High School Diploma Preparation book?

    No, but you make check a Florida High School Diploma Preparation book out through Mr.Dukes.

  • Q17. I took the Florida High School Diploma Tests before 2014, but failed some of the tests. Are the passing scores still valid?

    No.  A new GED Test went into effect in January 2014.  If you did not pass the entire GED Test battery before 2014, you must now take all four tests.
